Create a strong, random password in one click. Choose the length and the types of characters, then copy it straight into your password manager or sign-up form.

Passwords are created in your browser using its secure random number generator. They are never sent anywhere or saved.

How to use the Password Generator

  1. Use the slider to set the length. Longer is stronger, and 16 characters or more is a good starting point.
  2. Choose which character types to include. Turn on “avoid look-alike characters” if you will type the password by hand.
  3. Press New password for a fresh one, and check the strength bar.
  4. Click Copy and paste it where you need it. Save it in a password manager so you do not have to remember it.

What makes a password strong

Length matters most. Each extra character multiplies the number of possible passwords, which is why a random 16-character password is far harder to guess than a short one with symbols. The strength meter shows an estimate of the entropy, measured in bits. Higher is better, and 80 bits or more is considered strong for most uses.

These passwords are generated with your browser’s secure random number generator, the same source used for cryptographic work, rather than a basic random function. Each character is chosen without bias, and the password is built on your device only.

Use a different password for every account, turn on two-factor authentication where it is offered, and never share passwords by email or chat.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to generate passwords online?

This tool runs entirely in your browser, and nothing is sent or saved. Even so, only use it on a device and network you trust.

How long should my password be?

At least 12 characters is a common minimum. For important accounts such as email and banking, use 16 or more.

Do I need symbols?

They help, but length helps more. If a site does not accept symbols, turn them off and increase the length.

Where should I store my passwords?

A reputable password manager is the safest option. It creates, stores and fills in passwords so you only remember one master password.
